Bennett's multimillion-dollar fundraising advantage, conservative credentials and the backing of such Republican superstars as Mitt Romney, Karl Rove and Newt Gingrich couldn't save him in a year in which all of his perceived strengths were seen as flaws by many of the delegates.
This was not the year to be a senior member of the banking committee with ties to Wall Street firms, a defender of earmarks and the author of a bipartisan health reform plan.

Bennett sought refuge by working directly for eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes before trying his hand in some much lower-profile businesses. He ultimately found success as the CEO of Franklin Quest, building the business centered on day planners and amassing a fortune.
When his father's handpicked successor -- Sen. Jake Garn -- decided to retire in 1992, Bennett jumped into the race.
Political re-emergence » It had been more than two decades since his father's name appeared on a ballot in Utah, but Bennett was hoping his family tie would give him the edge in a closely contested fight for the Republican nomination. Filipinos vote amid violence, computer glitches

MANILA, Philippines -- Scattered violence and glitches with vote-counting machines being used for the first time failed to dissuade millions of Filipinos from voting in Monday's elections, seeking a clean start following a decade of corruption-tainted politics.
Sen. Benigno Aquino III - whose father was assassinated while opposing a dictatorship and whose late mother led the "people power" revolt that restored freedoms - commanded a large lead in the last pre-election polls.
But even Aquino was unable to immediately cast his ballot, because a vote-counting machine broke down in his precinct. The Elections Commission extended voting for another hour to make up for delays.
Computer problems and campaign-related violence, which has killed more than 30 people in the past three months, were the main concerns in elections that officials hope will set a new standard for the Philippines' fragile democracy.
For the first time, optical scanning machines will count votes in 76,000 precints. A software glitch discovered a week ago nearly derailed the vote, but was fixed at the last minute. Still, some machines malfunctioned in the tropical humidity, including in Aquino's hometown of Tarlac, north of Manila.

Floors - 80-foot-high public lobby topped by a series of mechanical floors form a 200-foot-high building base. 69 tenant floors rise above the base to 1120 feet elevation. Mechanical floors, two floors to be occupied by the Metropolitan Television Alliance, restaurants and observation decks culminate in an observation deck and glass parapet that mark 1362' and 1368' respectively — the heights of the original Twin Towers. An antenna supported by a cable structure rises to a final height of 1776'

Location - Freedom Tower is located in the northwest corner of the 16-acre World Trade Center site, bounded by Vesey, West, Washington and Fulton Streets.

Building Amenities - Observation decks, world-class restaurants, and the Manhattan Television Alliance (MTVA) broadcast and antennae facilities.
All floors served by direct elevators. Cross-over elevator banks at floors 20, 29, 37 and 45.
Ground floor contains a secure, 45-foot-high marble and glass entry lobby facing Greenwich Street, where access is limited to black cars and taxis.
Loading dock with five bays accessible from Washington Street.
Each floor served by individually tenant-controlled DHX units.
Each floor has 6w per sf of power available, with additional power if required.

Transportation - Freedom Tower offers access to mass transportation (including the A, C, E, 1, 2, 3, N, R , 4, 5, J, M, Z and PATH trains) both at grade and through an underground concourse with entry immediately outside the building and running from the new Fulton Street Transit Center to Battery Park City and the World Financial Center.
